Common Incense Types and Their Applications
The use of
incense has been recorded centuries earlier, as with the birth of civilization.
As we know, incense has been made from aromatic plants. There is no scientific information regarding the
advent and origin of burning incense. And the actual origin of incense remains
mysterious. Research has been taking place to study the effects that burning
incense have.
In ancient times, burning incense was mainly associated with religious ceremonies and spiritual rites. Religions like Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Shinto, and Christianity have burning different types of incense as an integral part of their religious ceremony. And it still continues to be so. However, we can mark some of the changes in their applications. Today, burning incense can be seen even in public spaces like restaurants to have the desired effect. Of course, we cannot avoid them burning inside the home.
As the time
passed, people gradually understood its value. And we can see them being used
as a part of their daily life. As a result of such changes, a wide array of
incense fragrances is available on the market. And each fragrance denotes and
has different purposes. Some prefer to have a certain
scent that provides a relaxing and soothing effect. Some others use for their
daily prayers and some for pleasing aesthetic effects. For instance, cedar
incense has purifying and healing effects. Cinnamon, another common incense
type acts as a stimulant besides it aroma. It also has the ability to ease
stomach upset.
Busy people with
heavy workload prefer Dragon’s Blood since it helps to foster energy. Frankincense
has most calming effect apart from having the ability to fight against the
depression and feeling of sadness. Lavender and jasmine provide a soothing effect and improves the quality of
sleep. While musk helps to increase determination and willpower, the rose is often
associated with feelings of restoration, reconciliation, and love. Peppermint
helps with stress and migraine. Last, but not the least, is one of the most
popular incenses made of sandalwood is
mostly burned during prayers.
